Corporate Packing Order

There is a cartoonist who draws doodles about computer and tech subjects and he cracks me up. He has a collection of sketches on his web site. I don’t read the comics pages of the newspapers any more because they just aren’t funny any more. But this guy made me laugh with each one. I wish I could remember his name!

China town

Tonight’s CSI showed a crime in an area populated almost exclusively by people from Korea or China, which is what my parents would have called, “China Town” and it ocurred to me that every major city - at least in the U.S. - must have a “China Town” now.

However, I’m concerned that the phrase may not be politically correct any more. We don’t refer to people from China as “Chinese” any longer unless we know for certain that they are indeed from China. If the exact country is unknown, we now refer to them as Asians.

All of this is to respect the feelings of the people with an Asian ancestry. Yet, I think they are proud of this and in some cities the “China Town” is a focal point for tourists and a very popular and well respected area, particularly in San Francisco, New York City and Washington, DC.

Poisons to dogs

My friend Annie sent out an email warning all her friends about giving Thanksgiving dinner leftovers to household pets, especially dogs. I had not realized that some very common foods and spices are bad for dogs. Evidently dogs do not digest pepper well and it can cause serious health problems. They are also sensitive to onions.

Annie learned all this from a web site called Petwave and I asked for the link so I can read up on the pet information . I love to give my dogs little bites of leftover dinner, but I sure don’t want to accidentally poison them by giving them food with pepper or onions in it.

Price Increase for USA today

We got word today that the price of the USA Today daily newspaper is going up from 75 cents to one dollar. The price increase goes into effect on December 8.

I wonder how many people will accept the price increase readily and continue buying the daily paper from USA Today? Or will they start buying the local paper that is a quarter cheaper? Worst case, they will stop buying the daily paper and just buy it on occasion, like when there is national news being covered or when they want the sales flyers and coupons that come in the Sunday paper.
